CERTIFICATE IN TEACHING ATHLETICS

 

These courses aim to give teachers and others working in schools the knowledge, skills and confidence to deliver enjoyable and engaging lessons that focus on encouraging maximum participation and increasing understanding, skill acquisition, fitness and enjoyment.

 

Based on the ‘Elevating Athletics’ resource, the course demonstrates progression across age groups in generic and athletic specific running, jumping and throwing activities.

 

The 6-hour courses can be delivered as one day, two half days or three twilight sessions.

 

CERTIFICATE IN TEACHING PRIMARY ATHLETICS

 

This course highlights safe and inclusive teaching methodology, which initially focuses on developing competency in the fundamental movement skills that underpin athleticism before examining how to apply these skills to running, jumping and throwing events.

Cost - £450 (maximum of 24)

 

CERTIFICATE IN TEACHING SECONDARY ATHLETICS

 

This course builds upon what is presented in the primary resource.  It focuses upon the ongoing acquisition and further development of the fundamental movement skills that underpin athleticism.  It highlights progressions for students of all abilities, presenting clear technical models and safe and inclusive teaching methodologies. 

Cost - £450 (Maximum of 24)

 

COURSES TO MEET YOUR SPECIFICATIONS

 

Courses can be tailored to meet the specific needs of a school, group of schools or other relevant group.  Here are some examples of areas that could be covered:

 

Shine Awards; star:track athletics; inclusion in teaching athletics; conditioning for young people through athletics; event specific development; athletics for GCSE or A level.

Cost - £450 full day, £250 3 hours, £200 2 hours (maximum 24)

 

SPORTSHALL ATHLETICS

 

Sportshall offer a wide range of services and courses designed to support the delivery of Sportshall in the curriculum and across School Sport Partnerships.  Experienced tutors are available to lead workshops, each two hours in duration, providing a detailed insight into teaching, development and delivery of the Sportshall programmes

 

SPORTSHALL WORKSHOPS

 

Workshop 1 – Introducing Sportshall and the Agility Challenge

Workshop 2 – Sportshall for Young People with Disabilities

Workshop 3 – Delivering Sportshall Competitions

Cost – £200 (all prices exclude VAT and expenses) including resources for 20 teachers

 

OFFICIALS AWARD

 

When the Summer Term is approaching your thoughts will no doubt be turning to summer sports activities including providing and running Athletics for various school and district meetings.  It is at this time that many teachers wish that they had a better understanding of the rules for the various disciplines and events.

 

UK Athletics have designed a course that covers all the basics elements of an athletic meeting.  This course comprises both theory and practical sessions and includes the basics of Health and Safety.

 

UKA ASSISTANT OFFICIAL AWARD

 

This course will teach teachers the rules of the events and officiating procedures.  It will also enable teachers to measure distances and times, make and share judgements, record observations, ensure safety and report concerns, liaise and communicate with other officials and athletes, report rule infringements, follow procedures and apply rules.

The course is 3 – 4 hours and includes practical and theory.

Cost - £10 per person (minimum of 12).
