There are a number of sporting and non-sporting agencies offering a variety of grants to support talented athletes. Below is an outline of where funding is available, and links to the relevant websites for further information.
FANS - Free Access for National Sportspeople
This scheme aims to assist elite sportspeople to achieve their full potential by reducing the financial burden of training costs. Athletes that are ranked in the top 10 of their event and age group qualify for this scheme.

TASS is a unique partnership between National Governing Bodies of sport and educational institutions, which focuses on maintaining a balance between academic life and training as a performance athlete.TASS provides athletes with a tailored package of services including Coaching, Strength and Conditioning, Talented Athlete Lifestyle Support, Physiotherapy & Sports Medicine, as well as support with competition and training expenses. To apply for TASS funding you must be nominated by your sport’s National Governing Body.
Funding amount:TASS make two types of awards:
Scholarships – Scholarships are awards to the value of £3,000 per annum.
2012 Scholarships – 2012 Scholarships are awarded to the value of £10,000 per annum. Funding
The Ron Pickering Memorial Fund invites applications from young track and field athletes who are in education and may need financial help towards training or provision of equipment. Applicants must be aged between 15 and 23 years, medallists from their National Schools AA, AAA U17, & U20 or U23 Championships or in the top six of the appropriate UK ranking lists.
SportsAid provides financial assistance to Britain’s amateur sportsmen and women.The aim is to help them prepare for competitions against better-funded, overseas athletes. SportsAid focuses on giving grants to youngsters aged 12 to 18 years old who are a member of the GB/England team or in a national squad.The grants can help with costs such as travel, training, accommodation, competition fees and equipment.Applicants must be identified and nominated by their National Governing Bodies of Sport, based on their talent and sporting results.

The Arthur J C Kendall Memorial Fund aims to encourage, promote and develop participation in athletics as a means of promoting physical health in the youth of the community. Applications or beneficiaries must, therefore, be under the age 21 years.
ASDA Sporting Chance will be allocating every one of their stores with two budding young local athletes. Through SportsAid, they will provide each one of these young sportsmen and women with a grant every year until 2013. In addition, each of their stores will be supporting their local athletes on a community level by carrying out fundraising activities to raise additional money for things like training, equipment and travel.
